Woven into the fabric of Sutherland Shire, the original Doltone House location is surrounded by manicured parterre gardens beside the quay-like waterways of Gwalwey Bay. An extensive makeover in 2022 maintained the signature, European inspired elegance of the beloved building while transforming the venue with modern design touches. Stylised furniture, polished concrete floors, elevated views and direct access sun-soaked indoor/outdoor spaces welcome guests and flow into the courtyard, lawns and gazebo of the gorgeous Belfiore Gardens.

History of Establishment

The Establishment Precinct was created from the remains of George Patterson House, a former department store destroyed by fire in 1996. The building, which was originally designed as an Emporium and Warehouse for a colonial ironmonger in 1895, now stands in two separate sections as a result of the fire.

The new 9-story building, which opened in 2000, retains many of the original grand 19th century features, including statuesque pillars and high timber beams, as well as a preserved section of charred jagged walls and cast-iron columns. These dramatic elements allow visitors to the Establishment to reflect on the unique history of the building.

The Great Hall at the University of Sydney, built in the 1850s and influenced by many of the big structures in England, would add formality and gravity to any gathering with its towering ceilings and stained glass windows.

This architectural gem, surrounded by secret gardens and courtyards, offers itself to a range of events, including cocktail receptions and sit-down dinners. Pre-dinner beverages and canapés may be served in the nearby magnificent quadrangle.

The Great Hall can easily seat 600 people for drinks or 300 people for a seated supper, making it one of Sydney’s most noteworthy wedding venues.
